Pros

  • Audited no-logging policy
  • Great for gaming
  • Suitable for streaming
  • Owns all the servers it uses
  • Budget-friendly annual subscriptions
  • Cons

  • Relatively slow speeds
  • Pricey monthly subscription
  • Small server network
  • With so many popular solutions on the VPN market, VyprVPN flies under the radar.

But this provider offers competitive annual subscriptions, great streaming and security features, broad OS support, and a reliable privacy policy.

For our VyprVPN review, we ran tests on both the mobile and desktop apps to see how this provider holds up. Keep reading to find out the results.

We ran a few speed tests from our office in London. We connected to VyprVPN servers in the UK, the US, and the EU. To get a good idea of this provider’s top performance, we picked the WireGuard protocol first since it’s generally faster than OpenVPN.

    Speed

    • Speed without a VPN: Before connecting to VyprVPN, we had a download speed of 187Mbps and an upload speed of 175Mbps
    • Average speed loss: 30%
    • Local speed: We got a download rate of 130Mbps and an upload rate of 106Mbps
    • Latency: 22ms
    • Long-distance speed: When connected to a US server, our download and upload speeds were 85Mbps and 37Mbps, respectively, while in the EU, we got 94Mbps and 45Mbps
    • Number of simultaneous connections: Five

Some users online ask, “Why is VyprVPN so slow?” The answer might be the protocol they use. When we connected through OpenVPN, the download speed results were much less impressive:

    • UK: 85Mbps
    • US: 45Mbps
    • EU: 34Mbps

Overall, VyprVPN is not among the fastest VPNs we’ve tested, and it’s definitely slower than heavyweights like ExpressVPN and NordVPN. But the WireGuard protocol delivers good performance that has barely perceptible speed losses for most common usages.

    Security and Privacy

    • Encryption: VyprVPN protects your internet connection with AES-256-GCM encryption
    • IP address security: VyprVPN masks your real IP address and assigns you one of the 300,000 IPs the company has available
    • Jurisdiction: Switzerland (VyprVPN is part of the Golden Frog company)
    • Kill switch: Available for Windows and Mac only
    • Leaks: No IPV4, IPv6, DNS, or WebRTC leaks in our tests
    • Security protocols: OpenVPN, WireGuard, IPSec, Chameleon
    • Data collection: No
    • Logging policy: Strict no-logs policy
    • VyprVPN offers Chameleon—a VPN protocol that hides your traffic. This is VyprVPN’s proprietary protocol that blends in with regular internet traffic to overcome restrictions and blocks. Using Chameleon is an excellent choice if you need a VPN to bypass internet censorship in countries such as China.

    Servers and Server Location

Most VPN companies rent servers—a standard practice in the industry. But VyprVPN chose to use its own servers instead. The provider has an average-sized network of 700+ servers across 73 locations in 64 countries worldwide.

Unlike some other small providers, VyprVPN’s servers aren’t located in Europe and North America exclusively. This VPN has 14 locations in Asia, 5 in the Middle East, 7 in Central and South America, 5 in Oceania, and 2 in Africa.

What’s more, this service offers dynamic server switching and 300,000 IP addresses. You can find a complete VyprVPN server list on the company’s website. Overall, this provider’s server park is small compared to those of widely popular VPNs like CyberGhost (7,600+ servers).

    VyprVPN’s Primary Uses

Let’s check out how good VyprVPN is with some common VPN usage types.

    Streaming

With VyprVPN, we could access Netflix US without a problem with excellent speed, even when streaming in HD. VyprVPN’s streaming section gives access to other popular streaming sites like Hulu, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, ITV Hub, All 4, and HBO Now.

We also managed to unblock the US Amazon Prime, which was a surprise as many VyprVPN reviews online say users can’t access the US version.

    Torrenting

In the past, VyprVPN used to discourage torrenting. But it recently changed its policy and updated its infrastructure, and now fully supports torrenting. It allows peer-to-peer traffic on all servers and keeps no logs.

    Gaming

Many users online ask, “is VyprVPN good for gaming?” The answer is yes. VyprVPN offers robust protection against DDoS attacks without any lag. You can use it with gaming consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation if you install the VyprVPN app on your router. But if you prefer to have a dedicated app for consoles, check out rival Surfshark.

    Supported Platforms

    • Desktop apps: There’s VyprVPN for Mac and Windows
    • Tor compatibility: Yes
    • Mobile apps: There’s a VyprVPN Android and VyprVPN iOS app, as well as a Blackphone one
    • Other platforms: VyprVPN also has a router, TV, QNAP, and Anonabox app

    How Much Does VyprVPN Cost?

VyprVPN used to have two pricing plans—VyprVPN Standard and VyprVPN Premium, but it pared down to just one.

    2-months plan  £4.66/month; £9.31/every two months
    18-months plan £1.83/month; £33/every 18 months
    36-months plan £1.25/month; £45/every 36 months

At the time of writing, you also get one, six, or twelve months free, depending on the subscription length you choose.

Additionally, there’s at least one VyprVPN discount at any given time, so be on the lookout for deals on the company’s website. There’s no VyprVPN trial, but you get a 30-day money-back guarantee with the three-year plan. This VPN’s prices are pretty low, especially compared to high-end options such as ExpressVPN.

You can pay using credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, UnionPay) and PayPal.

    Customer Support

Vypr VPN offers two options for customer support—live chat and email. We sent them an email and got a response within an hour. If you need a quick response, the 24/7 live chat on the official website is your best bet. Customer service reps usually answer within minutes.

Self-service resources include a frequently updated blog with posts on security topics, an FAQ page, a troubleshooting section, account management resources, and community forums. Overall, VyprVPN offers top-notch support that’s comparable or even better than that of rivals like HotSpot Shield.

    Want to Consider Other Options?

Since most VPN companies offer similar technology, it’s good to take into account things like extra features, price, and customer support when choosing which one to get. Here’s a chart with a comparison of TunnelBear vs ExpressVPN vs VyprVPN.

    VyprVPN  ExpressVPN TunnelBear
    Price 8/10 9/10 10/10
    Ease of use 10/10 10/10 8/10
    Reliability & support 9/10 10/10 8.5/10
    Speed 7/10 10/10 9/10

    Bottom Line

Although VyprVPN isn’t the fastest or the most potent VPN on the market, it still has a lot to offer.

With this provider, you get access to a variety of VPN protocols, versatile platform compatibility, and a strong commitment to privacy. Plus, the company’s Chameleon protocol has a lot of potential to bypass restrictions anonymously.

Overall, we recommend VyprVPN for its excellent value, top-grade privacy, and support for torrenting and streaming.
