This ConvertKit review explains what ConvertKit is, what are its pros and cons, and how you can leverage its features to build a sustainable business.

    What is ConvertKit?

ConvertKit was founded in 2013 by Nathan Barry, a professional content creator himself who has gone down the rabbit hole of marketing. He launched ConvertKit to help other creators, regardless of their tech skills, grow their audience and build a community.

Here’s what the platform has to offer.

    Features

    Email Editor

The best thing about ConvertKit is that it has advanced customisation features but is simple enough for beginners and less tech-savvy creators.

ConvertKit shows your ConvertKit email template in the sidebar of the Email Editor. If you work with different email templates for different campaigns, the editor lets you switch between them.

Similar to GetResponse, all creators can choose and customise templates from ConvertKit’s library or create new templates.

Another great feature of the ConvertKit email editor is the block menu, which boasts contextualised sections and takes care of fonts and style.

ConvertKit also allows users to add HTML codes, images, and clickable CTAs to their emails.

The one downside to the platform is the lack of visual content in emails. Images can be imported, but ConvertKit’s offer pales in comparison to AWeber’s 700+ stunning newsletter templates.

    Subscriber Management

Managing subscribers in ConvertKit is pretty straightforward.

One of the most convenient features that ConvertKit boasts is that it allows creators to import entire subscriber lists with custom fields and tags.

What’s more, creators can categorise them into custom groups based on their subscription type, engagement, and location, among other things, and take bulk actions to better target active subscribers and even delete cold subscribers. That said, ConvertKit does not boast the reporting tools of some of its competitors which would allow you to use insight from your campaign into future projects.

    Forms and Landing pages

Creating a ConvertKit landing page doesn’t require any background knowledge in coding, but there is a custom CSS option for anyone that enjoys that too.

For those that don’t, ConvertKit has plenty of highly-customisable templates that convert to match any device.

You can further drive subscribers to your products and services by using ConvertKit’s form templates. Creators can create an unlimited number of signup forms, customise the design to match their branding, and add custom fields.

ConvertKit also allows its users to embed forms in different ways via Zapier, JavaScript, and HTML.

    Integrations

ConvertKit has a long list of integrations for various purposes, including eCommerce, affiliate marketing, CRM, scheduling, workflows, and more. Some of the choices include Shopify, EarlyParrot, Flow.ly, Unbounce, and others.

But, what truly makes CovertKit stand out?

Unlike most of its competitors and ConvertKit alternatives, the platform has a feature called ConvertKit commerce that allows creators to sell products without having to use integrations

You can accept one-off payments, recurring payments, or set up an open amount depending on the customer’s choice.

    Autoresponders

With ConvertKit, users can send autoresponders to subscribers based on their activity. For example, you can set up welcome messages for new subscribers, discounts after a certain number of purchases, and sequence emails for events. Autoresponders should be easy to set up to maximise opportunities better.

Creators can also exclude certain subscribers from a specific sequence

    Marketing Automation

ConvertKit’s marketing automation tool is more advanced than that of its competitors. Creators can set up rules for email funnels and customise a subscriber’s path based on their activity to make sure they target their audience with the right content.

ConvertKit has customisable visual automation templates for releasing a new podcast or a book, launching a new album, and sharing content to social media platforms.

Despite its advanced features in this area, ConvertKit is yet to reach the standard set by some of the best marketing automation solutions available

    Customer Support

ConvertKit customer service is available via email and 24/7 live chat. It’s an excellent support channel compared to CleverReach which requires additional fees to take advantage of it.

The platform also runs a comprehensive blog with tips and guides on how to use its services, but in case you can’t find what you’re looking for, ConvertKit reviews say that its customer support representatives are knowledgeable and quick to respond.

     ConvertKit Price and Plans

The platform offers a ConvertKit free trial for its paid plans but also has a limited free plan for creators that are just getting started.

Note that this platform’s free trial is limited to 30 days, while Constant Contact gives you a more generous, two-month test run of the software.

ConvertKit starts at a low price of $9 a month, in line with MailerLite and Moosend. However, the cost goes up with the number of subscribers, reaching prices that could be too high for creators. In this case, Moosend, which comes in at $16/month for 1,000 subscribers, would be a much better choice.

    Bottom Line

ConvertKit is an email marketing solution that offers value for both paid and free subscribers.

From customisable landing pages, email templates, autoresponders, and marketing automation, this email marketing tool has everything a professional creator needs, regardless of their tech skills.

    What is ConvertKit used for?

ConvertKit’s target audience is professional content creators, bloggers, podcasters, and even YouTubers. The platform has features that help creators grow their contact list, build audience engagement, and advertise their product in front of the right people.

    How many people use ConvertKit?

ConvertKit has 365,000 creators using the tool as of April 2021 and claims its users collectively send out around 500 million emails per month.

    Is ConvertKit better than MailerLite?

That depends on what you’re looking for in an email marketing tool. According to our ConvertKit review, the platform is more niche-specific and has a better automation interface than MailerLite.
