Christmas festivities are some of the most anticipated events of the year for those that celebrate the holiday, but they can also put a heavy strain on the wallet.

One of the best ways to spread the cost of buying presents for your kids, nephews, and nieces is the Tesco toy sale.

But when is the next toy sale, is it available online, and what kind of half-price toys at Tesco can you find in 2022?

We answer that and share some tips that can help you make the most of it.

When Does The Tesco Toy Sale Start?

This year, the supermarket is launching the toy sale on October 2 (Monday) and will run until November 3 across 260 Tesco stores.

Tesco holds two large toy sales every year: one that takes place in spring and another one in the run-up to the Christmas season, which usually starts in late September or early October. Smyths, on the other hand, holds its’ toy sale around the middle of October.

The Tesco toy sales usually last for a month.

Here’s what that timeline looked like for the past four years:

Do You Need a Tesco Clubcard For The Toy Sale?

To be able to buy toys at Tesco at half price, shoppers need to have a Tesco Clubcard

The Tesco Clubcard is the supermarket’s loyalty scheme that allows loyal customers access to discounts on selected products.

Anyone can get a Tesco Clubcard by registering online or in one of Tesco’s stores. You can use it to collect points (by scanning the card at checkout) and convert them into vouchers.

Shoppers get one point for every £1 spent and get a £1.50 voucher when they accumulate 150 points. You can use the vouchers to shop with Tesco or any of its reward partners, including Thorpe Park and Pizza Express.

Tesco also rewards its Clubcard members with exclusive online and in-store deals.

Those who prefer to buy Tesco half price toys online and have an account should already have a Clubcard number and will automatically get access to the discounted prices.

What Toys Will Be On Sale?

The Tesco toys half price sale usually features popular toy brands, discounted by 40%-50%.

Brand featured in the sale include:

  • Paw Patrol
  • Hot Wheels
  • Pokemon
  • LEGO
  • Barbie
  • Peppa Pig

If the toys you’re looking for are no longer in stock, you might consider checking if they’re available at Sainsbury. Sainsbury is expected to hold a sale in mid-October.

Tesco Half Price Toy Sale: Tips

Given the popularity of the Tesco toy sale online and in stores, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise if shelves start emptying out the moment the sale launches– and quickly.

To make sure you get the best of it, here’s what you should do:

  • Make a list: Making a list of the toys you want to buy will save you time and money. You’ll know exactly what to look for when you get to your local supermarket, which will help you avoid adding a bunch of items that you don’t really need.
  • Shop around: Just because there’s a Tesco toy clearance sale doesn’t mean that you can’t find it cheaper elsewhere. It’s always worth looking around for good deals and figuring out the delivery costs.
  •  Shop in-store: Unless you’re strapped for time or your local Tesco is too far for the trip to be worth it, it’s always better to ship in-store. Chances are you’ll end up choosing from a larger pool of toys and scoop better deals.
  • Check with your local store: If possible, phone your local Tesco supermarket and ask if the items you’re looking for are still in stock. This will save you an unnecessary trip (and not to mention gas money).

Bottom Line

This year’s second half-price toy Tesco will run from Oct 3. (Monday) through Nov 3. Most of the toys – which can make great Christmas presents for your kids– are slashed at half price, including the Lego Friends Value pack and Hy-pro football table. The only snag is that you’ll need to be a Clubcard member to enjoy the heavy discounts.
