If you’ve found better ways to keep on top of your credit score, then it might be time to cancel your checkmyfile subscription.

In this article, we’ll explain what the service is good for and how the check my file cancellation process works.

Read on.

What Is Checkmyfile?

Launched in 2000, checkmyfile is an online service that provides access to users’ credit history. It’s a privately owned company that doesn’t sell your data to third parties or pass it on for marketing purposes.

The service pulls data from the top four credit bureaus in the UK (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Crediva) and offers a simple but detailed overview of your credit files.

What Does Checkmyfile Offer?

You can use checkmyfile services to compare credit reports from the four big credit agencies, check for inaccuracies, check your Electoral Roll, track your finance agreements and debt, and see your credit score with different credit reference agencies.

While you could dispute any errors on your credit report directly with the credit bureau, checkmyfile can liaise with the credit reference agencies to remove incorrect information on your credit file.

checkmyfile monitors all of your borrowings in the past six years, including mortgages, personal loans, and credit card loans, and lets you know how they’re affecting your credit score.

One of checkmyfile’s best features is that the company has its own scoreboard to calculate users’ credit scores. This number is based on the information that checkmyfile gathers from the credit bureaus.

The score indicates your credibility as a borrower and how lenders may evaluate you should you apply for a loan.

Finally, the company has a 30-day free trial. You will have to enter your credit or debit card information to create an account and pass the authentication process, but checkmyfile allows users to delete their account before the free trial passes, in which case you won’t have to pay anything to the company.

When the trial period ends, checkmyfile charges £14.99 a month for using its services.

How Does Checkmyfile Work?

checkmyfile reports aren’t updated in real-time.

The service can only update your report in their database once after your lender updates your credit file with new information. Most lenders update account information, such as credit limit, recent payments, and changes to your balance, on a monthly basis.

This means that sometimes, it can seem like your checkmyfile account isn’t up to date.

On top of that, every credit reference agency updates its database differently, so it’s not uncommon for information to differ from one credit report to another.
