Although we are not even halfway through 2021, Sony has already sold 7.8 million Playstation 5 units. This was released in the latest financial reports by the company, showing that between January and March, they were able to sell 3.3 million PS5’s and over one million PS4’s, which cemented Sony’s domination in the gaming industry.
The Covid-19 pandemic might have played a role in this as well, as more and more people are forced to stay at home during the crises. As a result, just in the last three months, the company reported about 109 million new Playstation Network users, while as of now there are over 47.6 million Playstation Plus subscribers. However, although over 36 million people in the UK played video games in 2020, Sony still recorded a decrease in video game sales, as most of the games were downloaded online.
As for the company itself, they recorded an increase in both sales and net income, compared to the same three months last year. Specifically, sales jumped from $116 million to $983 million. However, these numbers might go up even more in the future if the company finds a way to manufacture PS5’s faster.
