A 91-year-old man was confirmed dead after being hit by a car in Wigan, whereas an 89-year-old woman has been severely injured and is currently fighting for her life in a hospital.
According to the Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the culprit is a 22-year-old woman, who was arrested instantly but was recently released under investigation.
The police are currently appealing for witnesses who can provide dashcam footage to come forward.
The accident occurred on Monday, 18 October, shortly before 7 pm, after which the police arrived at the scene and found that two pedestrians had been hit by a moving vehicle.
Both victims were instantly taken to the hospital, but despite all efforts provided by the emergency care staff, the 91-year-old man, unfortunately, did not make it.
The 89-year-old woman is still at the hospital and remains in a serious condition.
The number of car crashes in the UK has been gradually decreasing over the past few years. Almost 26,000 severely injured casualties in car accidents were reported in the UK in 2019, with a 22% decrease in 2020. Yet, they remain to be an alarming issue, especially in residential areas.
