    Dormeo: Brand Snapshot

Dormeo is a brand of Studio Moderna Group—a company founded in 1992. It started producing mattresses in Italy and currently sells them across most European countries. The company first opened shop in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and has more than 10 million customers around the world.

Dormeo offers seven types of mattresses: memory foam, pocket, spring, octaspring, latex, hybrid, rolled, and dual-core.

There are five sizes: Single, Small Double, Double, King, and Super King.

    Materials & Construction

This 17cm tall Dormeo memory foam mattress is made from two materials—memory foam and Ecocell foam.

Memory foam was initially created for NASA so that astronauts would have a comfy lift-off.

The Ecocell foam is a unique, permanently elastic breathable foam with a three-dimensional cellular structure. It gives the mattress firmness and provides support for the whole body.

The Dormeo Memory Plus mattress has two layers:

    • The first layer consists of a 3cm visco-elastic memory foam designed to provide pressure relief and contour your body. It’s both soft and supportive. This is due to the molecules that bounce back so that the memory foam regains its initial shape every time you get out of bed.
    • The second layer is a 14cm wide Ecocell foam that serves as the base of the mattress and is much firmer than the memory foam on top. It provides support and air circulation throughout the bed. The Ecocell layer remains permanently elastic and further reduces the pressure points that can cause pain.

This Dormeo mattress model is thinner than most foam beds since it doesn’t have a transitional layer in between. For comparison, the Eve mattress is 7cm taller at 24cm as it consists of three layers (including the transitional middle layer made of responsive memory foam, which the Dormeo lacks).

The Dormeo Memory Plus is encased in a “Florentine-stitched” cover, which is antibacterial, antimicrobial, and protects from allergens such as dust mites. The protection comes from the carbon fibers which are woven into the fabric.

    Firmness

The Dormeo Memory Plus is a medium-firm mattress, leaning more towards the firm than the soft side. We agree with most Dormeo reviews that give this model 6/10 on the mattress firmness scale, making it suitable for all kinds of sleepers.

This is a very supportive and comfortable mattress because of the pressure-relieving materials it’s made of.

For comparison, Dormeo Memory Plus is firmer than the Simba Hybrid Pro, which is also medium-firm, but leaning more toward soft (5.5 or 6/10 on a firmness scale). However, this Dormeo model is softer than the Eve mattress, which is around 7.5/10.

    Comfort and Support

Although this isn’t a very thick mattress, it provides a perfect balance between comfort and pressure relief. It also offers excellent support because of the three-dimensional cellular structure of the Ecocell.

Furthermore, the support doesn’t decrease as the mattress warms up, which is often the case with all-foam beds. So you won’t feel like you’re sinking into it while sleeping.

Now, let’s see what kind of sleepers would most enjoy the Dormeo Memory Plus:

    Side Sleepers

Side sleepers usually enjoy medium-firm mattresses, so their shoulders and hips sink into the bed with good support provided along the way. The Dormeo Memory model offers good support and won’t make side sleepers feel like they are sinking into the bed during their sleep. But due to its thinness, this mattress would be more compatible with lightweight side sleepers than heavier ones.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers prefer thicker and firmer mattresses that won’t let them “melt” into the bed. That’s why this model is suitable for those that sleep primarily on their back.

It provides excellent pressure relief, and the 14cm Ecocell foam serves as a stable base. Because of the mattress’s medium firmness, heavier sleepers would feel more sinkage than lightweight ones.

    Stomach Sleepers

Like back sleepers, stomach sleepers prefer firmer mattresses. Since this model is medium-firm, it would provide enough support and little sinkage for lighter rather than heavier sleepers.

Furthermore, the Dormeo Memory Plus makes no noise thanks to the refined foam it’s made of.

    Temperature Regulation

One of the advantages of this mattress is that it doesn’t retain heat. The Dormeo Ecocell foam has been specifically designed with millions of breathable pores that allow air circulation to keep you cool at night.

Additionally, for maximum breathability, the Dormeo Memory Plus has Air Vents, which allow constant airflow and don’t let heat build up during the night. So it’s safe to say that this is an excellent mattress for hot sleepers.

For comparison, the Eve mattress doesn’t have any cooling properties and retains heat. However, the Simba Hybrid Pro has excellent temperature regulating properties due to its open-cell foam layer.

    Motion Transfer

Just like most memory foam mattresses, the Dormeo Memory Plus offers excellent motion isolation. This is because the foam absorbs the pressure only in the place where it’s applied and then regains its original shape. So you won’t be disturbed by the movements of your partner or a pet during the night, even if you’re a light sleeper.

    Edge Support

When you buy memory foam mattresses, you shouldn’t expect too much edge support since the foam tends to sink. And like most such beds, the Dormeo Memory Plus doesn’t provide much edge support.

But since it’s a relatively thin model, it doesn’t make sleepers feel like they’ll fall off if they lay close to the side as much as other similar models do.

    Durability & Maintenance

Although this Dormeo model is relatively durable for an all-foam mattress, some customers complain that it becomes saggy or less supportive with time (after a couple of years). However, that doesn’t seem to be the case for most people. A significant factor here is whether the sleeper is heavy or not, but also how you take care of your bed.

When it comes to maintaining your Dormeo Memory Plus, you don’t need to flip it since it’s specifically designed to have the Ecocell foam at the bottom and then the pressure relief memory foam at the top, but you should rotate it once a week for the first month and then once every four weeks afterward.

Since this is a memory foam mattress, you better steer clear from washing it, especially since the cover is sewn to it and can’t be washed.

Still, if you want your mattress clean, you can use a protector, vacuum it, and if you need to wash the surface, use a mild detergent and a sponge.

    Mattress Accessories

Dormeo offers other memory foam products to go with your mattress:

    • A memory foam pillow that molds to the shape of your head and neck.
    • Mattress protectors and covers to keep your bed in top-notch condition.
    • Mattress toppers for more coziness and support.

    Warranty & Trial Period

It’s obvious that Dormeo trusts its Memory Plus mattress since it comes with an impressive 15-year warranty. It covers faulty workmanship or materials. But, of course, if your mattress becomes softer or the thickness is reduced by 5–15%, that’s considered normal and isn’t covered by the warranty.

The mattress comes with a 60-night trial period to adjust to it and see whether it will suit your needs or not. This is less than what Simba Sleep and Eve mattresses offer—200-night and 100-night trials, respectively.

If you decide that you want to return the mattress, you’ll get a full refund. You can arrange the returns with a representative, who will explain the process in detail. To reach customer service, call 0800 224 8361 or send an email.

    Mattress Delivery

Dormeo mattresses are delivered rolled and vacuum-packed. This way, the bed is protected, and it’s easier to transport.

Dormeo UK Ltd deliveries are available in England, Scotland, Wales, North Ireland, and the Isle of Wight. You can order your mattress online or from a third-party supplier. After placing your order, you’ll get an email containing Terms and Conditions and confirmation details.

You can track your order online; it will be shipped via a parcel delivery company, and it usually takes about two weeks.

After it’s delivered, you must be careful not to use sharp objects when unpacking since you may damage the comfort layer. You can expect some off-gassing because of the delivery method, and the mattress might be wrinkly when you unroll it, but it should regain its shape in a short while, and you can sleep on it six hours after unpacking. As for the smell—it may linger for a couple of days.

    Customer Reviews

In general, people are happy with this model, but there are some Dormeo complaints too. So let’s check out what customers like and dislike about this mattress.

Trustpilot: There are no separate Dormeo mattress reviews from the UK, but the British subsidiary of the company has a 4.6/5 rating from over 18,000 reviews. 79% rated it as Excellent, and only 5% gave it a Bad score. This is better than most other brands, even those with an exceptional rating, such as Nectar Sleep (4.4).

The Dormeo official website displays the reviews from Trustpilot. Most comments praise the mattresses and say the delivery is quick. However, there are some complaints about customer service reps not being available or about slow deliveries.

Dormeo UK Ltd responds to most complaints and tries to resolve issues brought up in the reviews.

Amazon: The Dormeo Memory Plus has a 4.3/5 rating from close to 200 reviews globally on Amazon. 65% of customers rate the mattress as Excellent, while only 6% rate it as Bad. People say it’s better than their old mattress, or that it offers outstanding comfort. Still, there are some complaints about the bed becoming saggy after a while.

You can check out the Dormeo Awards for different sleeping products on its website. The Dormeo Memory Plus mattress was the winner of the Which? Best Buy Award in 2016–2017 for reliability, performance, safety, energy efficiency, and value-for-money.
